What You Get for the Money - The DFW (McKinney, TX) Edition!

One of my very favorite things to do as a REALTOR, is showing homes to out of town buyers. In particular, the buyers that are from markets that suffered housing bubbles and have overpriced housing. Areas likes: California, Florida, Las Vegas and even parts of Washington, DC/Virginia/Maryland borders. I get to see in real life the TV show "What you get for the Money".

Let's look at some interesting statistics (taken from www.bestplaces.net):

A person moving to McKinney, TX from San Francisco, CA making $50,000 could decrease their pay to $23,784. McKinney is 52% cheaper than San Fran. Housing is 77% cheaper!

A person moving to McKinney, Texas from Alexandria, VA making $50,000 could decrease their pay to $32,317. Housing is 65% cheaper and McKinney is 35% cheaper.

A person moving to McKinney, TX from New York City making $50,000 could decrease their pay to $27,070. Housing is 67% cheaper and McKinney overall is 46% cheaper than the Big Apple.

The looks on the buyer's faces as they walk into a Luxury Home in McKinney, TX and see all the bells and whistles for HALF the price of a 40 year old, 1200 sq ft home in their hometown is priceless. They are like kids in a candy store. A big, big candy store. That offers a wide range of homes - from lofts to estates - in millions of combinations and finishes. Not gumdrops and Raisinettes. But, I digress...

I just LOVE this part of the job. Many, many Dallas residents choose to migrate a little further North up 75 in order to get less expensive housing, quality public schools, prime shopping and dining choices plus the most beautiful natural landscapes and terrain that Texas has to offer. And many more people choose to make the move to McKinney, TX from outside of the DFW metroplex for the same reasons. It's only natural given the awesome employment opportunities and the stability that Dallas has proven (See my last post about what the S&P Price Index says about Dallas housing).
